The QU-950-4-HF-2.0 is a newly developed RFID / NFC / Modbus RTU reader, which is especially used in the field of e-charging station RFID payment, e-charging station NFC payment and e-charging station payment with app. It is directly connected to your system via the built-in Modbus RTU RS 485 & Modbus RTU RS 232 interface. Due to its size of 47.3mm x 21mm x 108.3mm (WxHxL) and the elegant housing, it is also easy to use on visible surfaces. With a reading distance of up to 10cm a smooth registration is guaranteed. By means of the built-in LED, the user is able to recognize the status of his requested process.

Our RFID / NFC / Modbus reader is CE certified and supports chip formats according to ISO14443A. This includes the chip types MIFARE® Classic 1K S50 and MIFARE® Classic 4K S70.

Explanation of the Modbus RTU protocol

The Modbus RTU protocol defines “registers” for data transfer to and from the reader. However, reading or writing a register is almost the same as sending a command “Read UID”, “Open sector xx”, “Read block xx”, and so on.

The address of the register stands for the command, which data is to be read or written and the number of registers (one register = two bytes) is the length of the data to be transmitted.

The function of a “simple” Modbus reader is very similar to the function of a door access reader: read the UID of a Mifare card and send it to the control unit (here = PLC).

The difference is that the Modbus reader has to store the UID in RAM and sends it out on the RS485 data line only when it has received the read command from the PLC at the next poll.

An “advanced” Modbus reader can open sectors and read from and write to specific blocks. This is a basic function of a desktop read/write device connected to a PC. “Translating” the read/write commands from a desktop reader to the command protocol of a Modbus reader is not a problem by defining appropriate “registers”.

The most advanced Modbus reader should handle Mifare Desfire cards and NFC tags used in credit cards and German bank cards for NFC payment services.
